As urban development Consultants, for the Heritage Circuit of projects under the Swadesh Dharshan Scheme, our role involved the framing of urban interventions in Srinagar. A comprehensive analysis and spatial mapping of the city’s existing tourism assets and infrastructure, led to the identification and shortlisting of 4 urban precincts. Proposals for each precinct range from urban improvements and modifications, solutions for urban renewal, creation of public places and placemaking interventions. The Jhelum Precinct involves a riverfront development creating an inclusive, accessible people’s public space abutting the river. Proposals for the historic district of Rainawari involve insitu sewage and sanitation improvements solutions and interventions towards restoring the heritage identity of the neighbourhood.
