The Kochi Vazhi or The Kochi Way, reimagines the Mullassery Canal precinct as an inclusive, citizen-centric, nature-resplendent ecological corridor. The project’s key focus is in addressing issues of waterlogging while fostering an effective sustaining relationship between the residents and the canal. With an intent to create the identity of a shared street, Kochi Vazhi prioritises pedestrians, differently-abled people and cyclists, while accommodating vehicular movement with reduced speeds. These interventions address five key elements- Water, Landscape, People & Community, Vehicles & Mobility and Revenue Generation. The project pioneers integrated interventions, keeping citizens at the core of urban processes and creating environment thriving city spaces. When replicated, this shall be The Kochi Vazhi or The Kochi Way of rebuilding future city identities.
