Pudhu Covai

An entry for the competition “Covai Design” organised by GIZ India, in collaboration with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, reimagines the stretch of Koundampalayam and the environs of the Sanganoor Canal located in the heart of Coimbatore. Our proposal focused on created an integrated network of systems that would not only make the neighbourhood people-centric but also sustainable and future ready. Solutions addressed storm water harvesting as a community initiative, localised sanitation treatment through naturalised biotopes, neighbourhood waste management through composting, biomethanation and recycle centres, harvesting solar energy and assisting the city in EV transition, and reclaiming the biodiversity of the canal and its neighbourhood. The system of integrated solutions when extended to the city, helps Coimbatore become sustainable and future-ready.
